Microtruder features and specification

All standard microturders include the extruder and a control panel. the standard extruder includes a 24:1 working L/D ratio 4140 hardened screw, removable water cooled feed section made from hardened stainless steel(s.s.), a 1750 RPM motor, 15:1 gear reducer with integral thrust bearings and keyed drive quill, nitrideds.s barrel with mica band heaters, s.s barrel cover, rupture disc.  and a s.s. breaker plate.  the standard control panel includes (3) auto tuning temperature controllers  for the barrel and (1) for the die, a DC motor control with 20:1 speed ratio and with tach feedback, a 10 turn screw speed control potentiometer, DC motor ammeter, and a digital screw speed readout.  An instruction manual and start-up polymer are included.  bench mounting is standard and includes height and leveling adjustment(shown on the RCP-1000 below).  Typical dimensions are given an page 7.

Hardware
Interchangeable Extruders : our modular design allows the interchanchange of different size barrels and screws! same                                                   control panel and transmission.
Vent and inlet ports : Cascade venting  makes for superior gas removal without vent flooding.  vents can be used for                                       maximum addition of non-melting materials.  Inlet ports are available for melt or liquid feed from
                                      your pump.
Melt Extruders : Also, called "screw pumps" melt extruders accept a melt(such as from a polymer reactor or twin screw                               extruder) and build pressure either to make a product or to pelletize.
Gear pumps : Considered the ultimate in pressure staility, gear pumps allow for the highest tolerance products.
Mounting systems : Post, plate, and other mounting styles allow you to customize the microtruder for your application.
High temperature heaters : Mineral filled heaters are recommended where operating temperatures exceed 550F
Motors : Higher HP, speed, and voltages.
Spare screws : General purpose, fluted mixers, various compression ratios, and bridge breaking hopper stirrers.
Feed sections : Easily changed feed sections allow improved pressure stability or higher output.
    Roller feed section are available for soft taffy like strip feed stocks.
Platings : Protect against wear and corrosion or improve performance with chrome, nickel, release, and other platings
 
Electrical
Pressure : High recommended option tells you how high and how stable the pressure is.  Pressure feed back control(stops                      long term pressure drift) is also available.
Automatic over amperage shut down. : Set the load where you want to stop the screw and avoid costly mistakes.
Air cooling : fans (see cover picture ) maximize process temperature control.
Melt Temperature readout : A thermocouple in direct contact with the melted material gives the polymer temperature.
Oem : Building your own control system? Order without motor or controls.
Torque : Measure the torque and infer viscosity.

Thease are the dimensions for the standard Microtruder.  As we are always inproving our product, These dimensions should be used onlu as a guide. Certified diemnsional drawings and detailed die mounting drawings are available.

Lab services

As part of Randcastle's commitment to technical service, a working lab is available for customer experiments, Typically, customers supply the polymers and the goals.  Randcastle sets up the extruders which are stripped and cleaned before the trial.  Most often customers come to the lab to work with Randcastle processing technicians.  However, trials are also done by Randcastle following the customers instructions and goals.

There are many reasons why our customers use our labservices.  Sometines, it is not clear how well an unusual material may process in the Microtruder in terms of feeding, pressure stabiluty, output, and so on.  someties, a particular line must be shown to produce samples within a jcustomer's expectations.  Occasionally, customers have operating budgets that allow them to come to the lab and do their experimental work.

The lab's machinery is constantly being updated so a complete listing of the lab's facility is not practical in this brochure.  However, usually the lab has about 10 Microtruders.  These machines are conbined into the lines on the following page.  Please call to discuss your jparticular application or for a  quotation  for lab services.
