Contact angle meters are used to measure adhesion of liquids to solid or liquid surfaces, and to calculate surface energies or adhesion tension. The measurement of the contact angle formed at the point where a liquid contacts a substrate (liquid or solid) is called the "contact angle." The contact (tangent) angle formed between a "sessile" drop and its supporting surface is relative to the forces at the liquid/solid or liquid/liquid interface and can be used as a direct test specification or as a quality characteristic. Both direct (protractor measurement) and indirect (dimensional measurements and formulation) methods can be employed to obtain highly accurate and repeatable contact angle measurements. Units feature an open sample stage for testing of large samples. A glass cuvette is available for special applications such as measuring the contact angle of a liquid against a solid when both the liquid and solid are immersed in a second liquid. The fiber/film holder accessory can be used to hold thread, cloth, film or other flexible materials taut during testing. For literature and prices, request Catalog No. 15-A.
