The Falex Life Performance Test Machine is designed to economically perform long term endurance or life
performance type tests with precision and accuracy. Ideally suited for evaluating wear life properties of plastics,
composites, metals, ceramics and other materials designed for long life applications. Materials may be evaluated dry
or submerged in a fluid and under a wide range of contact stresses depending on the contact geometry of the
specimens and applied load.
The test machine consists of a drive system and an electronic instrumentation system. The drive system includes a 2
HP, variable speed motor and precision shafts to hold the test specimen adapters for accurate long term wear studies.
The electronic instrumentation system includes control of the shaft rotational speed, load application, display of the
speed in RPM, torque in inch pounds, and specimen temperature in degrees Celsius. The instrumentation system is
also equipped with automatic cut off to stop test if any parameter is exceeded.
The following specimen configurations are available and suited for long term evaluations:
Thrust Washer:
Area contact, used in long term material wear tests under constant contact pressures. Meets used to determine PV
limits. requirements of ASTM D 3702 "Wear Rates of Self-Lubricated materials in Thrust Washer Configuration". Also
used to determine PV limits.
Pump Rotor Vane:
3 Line contacts, originally designed to evaluate material used on vane pumps, can also be used for material wear
tests where high Hertzian line contact stresses are desired. Under ASTM standardisation.
Face Seal:
Area contact typical of face seal applications. Uses actual face seal design.
Lip Seal:
Area contact typical of lip seal. Uses actual lip seal design.
Liquid Erosion:
Test design to simulate wear of material subjected to abrasives, slurries for extended periods.
The Falex Life Performance Test Machine is used for long term evaluation of wear rates of materials and can
discriminate wear properties between different materials in sliding motion under similar PV conditions.
Test Shaft:
Precision made, designed to hold test specimen adapters for accurate long term wear studies.
Load:
Pneumatic design with digital display/control range from 1 ¡¾¨ù lb. to 150 ¡¾1 lb.
Speed:
50 - 1800 RPM.
Torque:
Load cell with digital display meter and automatic high limit cut off. Field calibration system included.
Revolution Counter:
Digital electronic counter with predetermined cut off.
