The FZG rig is a back-to-back gear test rig with mechanical power circulation. The driving motor only compensates
the power losses in the system, while the actual test gears can be operated under very high loads. The maximum
torque transmitted by the gears can be as high as 1000 Nm, what results in performances of about 200 hp at 1500 rpm
respectively 400 hp at 3000 rpm.
Specimens :
The rig consists of the drive gears and test gears which are connected by two parallel shafts. One shaft is split in two
parts and carries the load clutch for the application of the load.
Tests :
The following tests can be performed on the rig:
- Gear oil test to determine the scuffing load capacity of gear lubricants (acc. to DIN 51354, CEC L 07A-85, ASTM D
5182.
- Pitting test to determine the influence of different gear oils and additives on the pitting load capacity of gear
lubricants.
- Micro-pitting (grey-flecking) test to determine the influence of different oils and additives on micro-pitting
(grey-flecking)
- Shear Stability test to determine the shear loss of multi-grade lubricants with VI improvers.
- Chevron low speed wear test for determination of wear characteristic of gear lubricants.
- Any other investigations on gear damage (e.g. S-N curves for pitting resistance of different materials).
